Nutrition and Health
At Kellogg, we believe our role is to give consumers the information they need to make informed dietary choices. We also believe that all foods can have a place in the diet – with balance and moderation. These concepts are core to our Global Nutrition Policy, which we updated this year to take into account consumer nutrition needs and preferences in addition to available science. We are committed to providing nutrition information in a transparent and open manner.
In 2009, we announced plans to add fiber to many of our ready-to-eat cereals in the United States and Canada – a nutrient that 90 percent of people in these markets do not get enough of in their diets. This initiative follows other recent product renovations to reduce sugar and sodium and remove trans fats, and is part of our continuing journey to improve the nutrition credentials of our foods.
Kellogg is also proud to have joined with more than 58 peer companies, major food retailers and nongovernmental organizations in the U.S. to present a comprehensive and coordinated response to the obesity epidemic. Called the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, the goal of this initiative to help reverse the trend of obesity in the U.S. by 2015 by encouraging people to balance a healthy diet with physical activity.
